Transformative Tools

This page is designed to showcase the various transformative tools available to us through work and professional development opportunities. Transformative tools are those pedagogical ideas, theories, approaches, methods, and activities that challenge you to develop your praxis further. For example, I used a project-based learning approach to challenge my comfort with teacher-centered instruction during the summer of 2010 while working at the Monterey Institute of International Studies’s Intensive English Program. At the same time, I also experimented with a collaborative learning approach in order to understand interaction and group dynamics in an EFL classroom setting.

Other possible transformative tools are:

Service Learning

Media Literacy

Critical Pedagogy

Transformative Intellectualism

Action-based learning

Experiential Learning

Constructivism

Reflexivity

Action Research
